Parracombe Drop in Event.
Local residents had a chance to have their say on the future of Parracombe’s community facilities at a drop in event held recently in the village’s RAOB Hall.
The event, organised and attended by the Parish Council and Exmoor National Park Authority’s Policy and Community team, with representatives from Devon Communities Together and Devon Homechoice, was planned to tie in with questionnaires circulated to residents on the local need for affordable housing and community facilities.
Members of the community came along to find out more and give their views on current initiatives including a replacement for the shop/post office, which closed its doors in November, the purchase of the RAOB village hall, local need affordable housing, recreational facilities and parking.
Jeremy Holtom Chairman of Parracombe Parish Council said: “We thank all those who came along and gave us their views to help with the important decisions affecting our village. A new village shop and post office will need people to invest in community shares as well as with setting it up and its day to day running. We are also looking into a potential community land trust for locally needed affordable housing”.
Ruth McArthur, Policy and Community Manager at ENPA said: “We are very supportive of Parracombe’s efforts to plan for the future of their community and are keen to continue to work together including on the need for local affordable housing. The consultation responses will contribute to a Parish Plan for Parracombe.”
Jeremy Holton continued: “All Parracombe, Martinhoe and Trentishoe households have received a questionnaire on community facilities. Although the closing date was 20th January, we are happy to receive completed questionnaires from residents over the next 10 days to help us plan for the future.”
