Last push for plaques as landmark bridge nears completion
Great Bradley Bridge is nearing completion and Exmoor National Park Authority invites you to leave your mark on your very own piece of the bridge, in a dedication plaque
Plaques can be purchased to honour a loved one or to commemorate an important anniversary, or even just to mark the 70th birthday of the National Park itself. The Bridge is being built across the River Barle to provide a secure, sustainable route along the Two Moors Way between Tarr Steps and Withypool.
Dan Barnett Access and Recreation Manager for ENPA said:
“The bridge will not only divert footfall from ecologically sensitive areas, helping to protect wildlife like otters and pied flycatchers, it will also give riders and walkers a secure crossing over the River Barle improving access to the landscape. We would like to thank the local community and all the donors like the British Mountaineering Council and the West Somerset and Exmoor Bridleways Association, who have been getting behind this CareMoor project.”
Retail & Enterprise Officer, Clare Weeks said:
“You can order a dedication plaque until the 25 September, to have it placed on the finished Great Bradley Bridge in time for official opening. It can be in memory of someone you love or to mark a special occasion. You can choose your own wording for engraving on a beautiful, bronze plaque, which will be placed towards the bottom of vertical timber posts on the new bridge. The cost is a donation to CareMoor of £100. Your donation will be supporting our CareMoor fundraising appeal to help complete the bridge, enhance the access to and around the area and other related work. There are just 26 plaques left available, so reserve yours now to avoid disappointment “
Great Bradley bridge is comprised of a recycled steel structure, which now is in place along with locally sourced, sustainable timber deck and handrails which are currently under construction. The finished bridge will be opened on #ExmoorDay, Saturday 19 October, as the National Park celebrates its 70th anniversary.
