Exmoor Sensory Stories
With one in five visitors to Exmoor likely to have additional access requirements, there is a growing understanding of the need to provide support to help people get the most from their time in the National Park.
Recent funding from Defra has given us the opportunity to provide additional support for people with autism who wish to visit Exmoor by commissioning Access and Inclusion UK to produce a series of Sensory Stories for key sites. These highly visual ‘stories’ written in clear language, are designed to help autistic people and their family and friends prepare for their visit by highlighting the key things they might see, hear, touch, taste or smell at a site: the ‘sensory experience’.
In addition to supporting autistic visitors, Sensory Stories can also be helpful for younger people, families, visitors with learning disabilities and those living with dementia.
