WILD FOLK - Tales from the Stones

Tales from the Stones 2
White Rock Cottage Ashcombe Car Park - TA24 7SH what3words ///funky.cuddled.lyricism
It seemed only fitting that Wild Folk should be celebrated at the Summer Solstice, a pivotal moment when folklore magic is at its most potent…
Wild Folk comprises seven richly illustrated fables of transformation and power. You will meet selkies and silver trout and the black fox, as big as a wolf and so fast and cunning she drives the lord of the manor to oblivion; the woman of flowers who is happier living as an owl; the boy who learns to feel the songs and stories of trees through his skin; Wayland, the smith who can hammer metal to such airy thinness he makes his own wings; and the great white raven, a bird so rare it awakens an ancient king.
Visitors to the exhibition will be able to meet Jackie and Tamsin in person as both will be setting up a studio space within White Rock Cottage. Fellow artists and silversmiths Rachel Bailey, Eva John and Jo Taylor have also been invited to exhibit so prepare to meet the black fox in all her guises!
Work by all the artists alongside signed copies of Wild Folk will be available to purchase throughout the exhibition which closes at 4pm on Sunday 22nd June. A brief summer moment when the door is open to let through the light…

WILD FOLK: Walk & Talk with Jackie Morris and Tamsin Abbott

Walk & Talk with Jackie Morris and Tamsin Abbott
Westermill Farm, Exford, Exmoor, Somerset TA24 7NJ what3words ///originals.adventure.lasted
Join Jackie Morris and Tamsin Abbott for an evening stroll to the standing stone at Westermill Farm to mark the publication of Wild Folk.
Wild Folk is inspired by our ancient landscape and the folklore often linked with the standing stones that can be found countrywide. This evening walk will take you to discover one of those stones standing tall on Exmoor - a rare creature as the stones of Exmoor are generally low lying and hidden within the cotton grass.
Once at the stone, there will be readings from Wild Folk and tales of its creation. Summer apple cake, cider and fruit juice will be shared before returning at sunset.
‘WILD FOLK is a wondrous weaving of story and image, glass and ink, dream and song, created together by two makers at the height of their huge powers, who also happen to be dear friends with one another. Born of love and collaboration, the art here holds light that spills and fills, and spaces in which to breathe and swim.’ Robert Macfarlane
Dress appropriately with suitable footwear - be prepared for summer rain! Bring a blanket and a torch - Participants must have a level of moderate walking fitness as the terrain is uneven.
Ticketed Event: Price £24.00
SORRY NO DOGS - we do not wish to disturb the farm animals or wildlife.
