The Lost Village of Clicket – Explore back 150 Years
Bakers Farm, Luxborough, Watchet, TA23 0SU
Join walk leader Marion Jeffrey to explore back 150 years ago to five families who lived in a remote Somerset valley. Then, in the space of ten years, they vanished!
Since relocating to Timberscombe, fifteen years ago, Marion has been captivated by the local history. She is the churchwarden and leader of the history group at Timberscombe.
The remains of Clicket, including its abandoned mill, chapel house, and houses, can be reached by foot from Baker Farm north towards Timberscombe across a steep-sided valley. This is a lovely walk along a stream in gorgeous beech forest. Walking poles and walking boots are required, preferably wellies in wet weather.
We will pass the quarries and the mill where its inhabitants made their living, and hear the story of life in one of Exmoor’s most remote villages. We will return by the same route, some of which is rough, with steep going and a degree of scrambling involved! There are also some low lying branches where trees have come down, so a degree of manoeuvring will be required.
