UPDATE 30th January 2025 following Storm Darragh:
Our staff are still out working hard, checking and clearing rights of way across Exmoor after damage caused by #StormDarragh in December 2024. Due to the scale of the damage, many paths in wooded areas remain blocked by fallen trees and may have trees still in a dangerous condition.
The South West Coast Path on Exmoor is now completely open between Minehead and Combe Martin thanks to the tremendous work done by the Exmoor National Park Field Services Team & Rangers and the National Trust Rangers. The Coleridge Way between Porlock and Monksilver is now open but all other wooded sections of the Coleridge Way and Two Moors Way promoted walking routes are still likely to be blocked by fallen trees.
Even where we have cleared paths, there is the possibility that more trees may have fallen or landslips have occurred so please take care if you are out and about and take note of any signage. Please report any issues to us by using our online reporting system (Explore Somerset - Rights of Way, Open Spaces and Area Management) or by email to access@exmoor-nationalpark.gov.uk.
Thank you for your patience and understanding. We will update with more information as it becomes available.
New Sections of Coast Path Open on Exmoor!
Six new section of coast path were officially opened on Exmoor on 17th July 2024. They become part of the South West Coast Path but also part of the King Charles III England Coast Path. The six new sections are clearly signed on the ground with the National Trail acorn. The new sections of Coast Path are all closer to the sea than the coast path used to be and open up new access and spectacular views for the public to enjoy. The 'old' coast path routes are all public rights of way - some public footpaths and some bridleways - so are all available for the public to use and give opportunities for some great circular walks.
